Ben Wilson – The Chewinggum Man

Ben Wilson, an artist from London, transforms flattened chewing gum into works of art. In 2019, he came to Zurich at the invitation of the Musée Visionnaire and painted 20 pieces of chewing gum in the Old Town and other districts. Now, two years later, he has returned to restore his paintings and paint more chewing gum. In the workshop, the pupils go on a journey of discovery, track down the tiny works, design their own chewing gum on paper and get to grips with street art. Topics such as: Property, money, climate, society and public space are thus addressed and there is a lot to discover and discuss in an age-appropriate way.

School in the Museum

Since 2018, primary school classes at Waidhalde have been spending one to two whole mornings a week at the Musée Visionnaire as part of a long-term project with their class teacher for at least one semester. The aim is to teach holistic learning in an extracurricular setting and encourage the children to think critically and creatively. The lessons are designed to be participatory, multimedia-based, true-to-life and interdisciplinary, incorporating the subjects of language, mathematics, people and the environment (MNG) and visual arts. Through self-determined and project-based work, the children are encouraged to think critically and creatively and are supported individually in their working and learning processes according to their needs. The interdisciplinary skills of social, performance and presentation skills are strongly promoted by the project, as the pupils can exchange ideas with the currently exhibiting artists, are actively involved in vernissages and other events and offer guided tours for school classes, PHZH students and adult guests.
